Four concerts and a folk music night at Janakkala Baroque festival.

Helsinki Baroque Orchestra’s summer festival in Janakkala offers enchanting Renaissance atmospheres, rare instruments and Finnish folk music. Italian organ specialist Marco Mencoboni is the star of the opening concert on Friday, presenting one of the masterpieces of early Baroque period: Frescobaldi’s Fiori Musicali. On Saturday, the Church of St Lawrence acts as a backdrop to some mesmerizing Renaissance cornetto playing by Italian soloist Andrea Inghisciano.

Saturday night will be spent at the Turenki Railway Station, where the restaurant offers a buffet to complement the new folk music played by Ilkka Heinonen Trio. There is also free programme for children on Saturday. Finally on Sunday the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra’s ensemble plays Renaissance and Baroque pieces inspired by Biblical stories in the concert Susanne un jour, directed by harpsichordist Anna-Maaria Oramo.

The Baroque bus takes you from Helsinki straight to Janakkala Festival and back for 15 €! The bus leaves at 16:15 on Saturday and Sunday from the Kiasma Modern Art Museum. Reserve your seat:
